Let OX and OY be two fixed lines inclined at a constant angle α. A variable line cuts OX at P and OY at Q. From P and Q perpendiculars PM and QN are drawn to OY and OX respectively.
Let the axes be chosen as OX and OY. If OP = a, OQ = b, then equation of PQ must be
  1. \(\frac{x}{a \cos \alpha}+\frac{y}{b \sin \alpha}=1\)
  2. \(\frac{x}{a \sin \alpha}+\frac{y}{b \cos \alpha}=1\)
  3. \(\frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{b}=1\)
  4. None of these

Answer

(C) x a + y b =1
