A potential difference is applied across a copper wire of radius 0.5 mm. It results in a uniform electric field of 1.5 V/m along the length of the wire. Consequently there is a current in the wire. Temperature of the wire is 60oC.Assuming each copper atom contributes one free electron .Given that density of copper is 8.9 gm/cm3 and resistivity of copper at 20oC is 1.7×10–8 ohm.m and its temperature coefficient of resistivity at 20oC is 3.9×10–3/OC . Atomic mass of copper is 63.5 . Answer the following questions.
Potential difference that need to be applied between the ends of a 4 m long wire to produce the given field is
- 3 volt
- 4.5 volt
- 6 volt
- 1.5 volt
Answer
(C) 6 volt
