Given below are two statements.

STATEMENT - 1: If \(\text { 'a' }\) is an integer, then the straight lines

\(\vec{r}=\hat{i}+2 \hat{j}+3 \hat{k}+\lambda(a \hat{i}+2 \hat{j}+3 \hat{k})\) and

\(\vec{r}=2 \hat{i}+3 \hat{j}+\hat{k}+\mu(3 \hat{i}+2 \hat{j}+2 \hat{k})\) intersect at a point for \(a=-5\).

STATEMENT - 2: Two straight lines intersect if the shortest distance between them is zero.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. Both statements are true and Statement - 2 is the correct explanation for statement - 1
  2. Both statements are true but Statement - 2 is not the correct explanation for statement - 1
  3. Statement - 1 is true and Statement - 2 is false
  4. Statement - 1 is false and Statement - 2 is true

Answer

(A) Both statements are true and Statement - 2 is the correct explanation for statement - 1
