Given below are two statements.

STATEMENT - 1: The direction cosines of one of the angular bisectors of two intersecting lines having direction cosines as \(\left.\right|_{1}, m_{1}, n_{1}\) and \(z_{2}, m_{2}, n_{2}\) are proportional to \(l_{1}+l_{2}, m_{1}+m_{2}, n_{1}+n_{2}\).

STATEMENT - 2: The angle between the two intersecting lines having direction cosines as \(\left.\right|_{1}, m_{1}, n_{1}\) and \(z_{2}, m_{2}, n_{2}\) is given by \(\cos \theta=l_{1} l_{2}+m_{1} m_{2}+n_{1} n_{2}\).

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. Both the statements are true and Statement - 2 is the correct explanation for Statement - 1
  2. Both the statements are true but Statement - 2 is not the correct explanation for statement - 1
  3. Statement - 1 is true and Statement - 2 is false
  4. Statement - 1 is false and Statement - 2 is true

Answer

(B) Both the statements are true but Statement - 2 is not the correct explanation for statement - 1
