STATEMENT - 1: The moment of inertia of a given rigid body about any two different axes will always be the same, if the axes are at the same distance from the centre of mass of the rigid body.
STATEMENT - 2: The moment of inertia of a body about any axis is equal to its moment of inertia about a parallel axis through its centre of mass and the product of the mass of the body and the square of the perpendicular distance between the two parallel axes.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
- Statement - 1 is True, Statement - 2 is True; Statement - 2 is a correct explanation for Statement - 1
- Statement - 1 is True, Statement - 2 is True; Statement - 2 is NOT a correct explanation for Statement - 1
- Statement - 1 is True, Statement - 2 is False
- Statement - 1 is False, Statement - 2 is True
Answer
(D) Statement - 1 is False, Statement - 2 is True
