Given below are two statements. One is labelled as Assertion and the other is labelled as Reason.

STATEMENT - 1 (Assertion): In photo-electric emission of photo-electrons, if the source of light emitting photons of energy (hν) is brought closer to the photo-electrical cell, the photoelectric current increases, for \(h v>h v_{u}\left[v_{u}=\text { threshold frequency }\right]\)

STATEMENT - 2 (Reason): The number of photons incident per unit cross-sectional area increases, hence photoelectric current increases.

Which of the following is correct?

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. Assertion is True, Reason is True; Reason is a correct explanation for Assertion
  2. Assertion is True, Reason is True; Reason is NOT a correct explanation for Assertion
  3. Assertion is False, Reason is True
  4. Both are False

Answer

(A) Assertion is True, Reason is True; Reason is a correct explanation for Assertion
