Electromagnetic wave theory was proposed by James Clark Maxwell in 1864 . Acc. to this theory, the energy is emitted from any energy source continuously in the form of radiations & is called radiant energy.
Some important characteristics of a wave are :
1 . Wavelength (λ) :- Distance between any two consecutive crests or troughs
2 . Frequency (ν) :- Number of waves passing through a point in one second.
3 . Amplitude :- Height of crest or depth of trough
4 . Wave Number \[(\bar{v})=\frac{1}{\lambda}\]
Relation between velocity, wavelength & frequency
c = ν × λ
How long would it take a radiowave of frequency, 6 × 103 sec–1 to travel from Mars to Earth, a distance of 8 × 107 km ?
- 266 sec
- 246 sec
- 280 sec
- None of these
Answer
(A) 266 sec
