Given below are two statements.

STATEMENT - 1: If three points P, Q and R have position vectors \(\overrightarrow{\mathrm{a}}, \overrightarrow{\mathrm{~b}}\) and \(\overrightarrow{\mathrm{c}}\) respectively, and \(2 \overrightarrow{\mathbf{a}}+3 \overrightarrow{\mathbf{b}}-5 \overrightarrow{\mathbf{c}}=0\), then points P, Q, and R must be collinear.

STATEMENT - 2: If for the points A, B and C, \(\overrightarrow{\mathrm{AB}}=\lambda \overrightarrow{\mathrm{AC}}\), then the points A, B and C must be collinear.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. Both the Statements are true and Statement - 2 is the correct explanation for Statement - 1
  2. Both the Statements are true but Statement - 2 is not the correct explanation for Statement - 1
  3. Statement - 1 is true and Statement - 2 is false
  4. Statement - 1 is false and Statement - 2 is true

Answer

(B) Both the Statements are true but Statement - 2 is not the correct explanation for Statement - 1
