In the figure shown, a horizontal cylindrical tube connected to the vertical wall of a chamber of volume V, contains \(V_{0}\) volume of air at atmospheric pressure \(P_{0}\) and temperature \(T_{0}\) by means of a movable piston A and a valve B. In the beginning valve is closed and the chamber is evacuated. The valve gets opened and air starts leaking into the chamber very slowly. The volume \(V \gg V_{0}\). Take the molar heat capacity of air at constant volume equals \(\frac{5}{2} R,\) where R is universal gas constant. When air occupies the total volume of the chamber, (All walls and piston are made up of insulating material):

  1. Its internal energy is \(7 P y_{0}\)
  2. Its temperature is \(1.4 T_{0}\)
  3. Its pressure is \(\frac{1.4 P_{0} y_{0}}{V}\)
  4. None

Answer

(B) Its temperature is 1.4 T_ 0, (C) Its pressure is 1.4 P_ 0 y_ 0 V
