Assertion (A) : The carbocation \(\mathrm{CF}_{3}-\stackrel{\oplus}{\mathrm{C}} \mathrm{H}_{2}\) is less stable than \(\stackrel{\oplus}{\mathrm{C}} \mathrm{~F}_{3}\).
Reason (R) : In case of \(\mathrm{CF}_{3}-\stackrel{\oplus}{\mathrm{C}} \mathrm{H}_{2}, \mathrm{CF}_{3}\) is strong electron withdrawing, therefore increases +ve charge whereas in \(\stackrel{\oplus}{\mathrm{C}} \mathrm{~F}_{3}\), lone pair of ‘F’ overlap with vacant p-orbital of carbon reducing +ve charge by pπ - pπ bonding or back bonding.
  1. If both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion
  2. If both Assertion and Reason are true but
Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.
  3. If Assertion is true but Reason is false.
  4. If Assertion is false but Reason is true.

Answer

(A) If both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion
