Given below are two statements. One is labelled as Assertion and the other is labelled as Reason.

Assertion: A solution of sucrose in water is dextrorotatory. But on hydrolysis in the presence of a little hydrochloric acid, it becomes laevorotatory.

Reasoning: Sucrose on hydrolysis gives unequal amount of glucose and fructose. As a result of this, change in sign of rotation is observed.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. If both Assertion & Reason are True & the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.
  2. If both Assertion & Reason are True but Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.
  3. If Assertion is True but the Reason is False.
  4. If both Assertion & Reason are false.

Answer

(A) If both Assertion & Reason are True & the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.
