A parallel plate capacitor of area A, plate separation d and capacitance C is filled with four dielectric materials having dielectric constants \(\kappa_1\) , \(\kappa_2\) , \(\kappa_3\) and \(\kappa_4\) as shown in the figure below. If a single dielectric material is to be used to have the same capacitance C in this capacitor, then its dielectric constant \(\kappa\) is given by:

- \(\frac{2}{\kappa }=\frac{3}{\kappa _{1}+\kappa _{2}+\kappa _{3}}+\frac{1}{\kappa _{4}}\)
- \(\frac{1}{\kappa}=\frac{1}{\kappa_{1}}+\frac{1}{\kappa_{2}}+\frac{1}{\kappa_{3}}+\frac{3}{2 \kappa_{4}}\)
