Electromagnetic wave theory was proposed by James Clark Maxwell in 1864 . Acc. to this theory, the energy is emitted from any energy source continuously in the form of radiations & is called radiant energy.
Some important characteristics of a wave are :
1 . Wavelength (λ) :- Distance between any two consecutive crests or troughs
2 . Frequency (ν) :- Number of waves passing through a point in one second.
3 . Amplitude :- Height of crest or depth of trough
4 . Wave Number \((\bar{v})=\frac{1}{\lambda}\)
Relation between velocity, wavelength & frequency
c = ν × λ
Which of the following is correct relation of wavelength among various radiations :
- Cosmic < X-rays < Micro-waves < γ-rays
- UV rays < Radio waves < visible < IR rays
- Cosmic < UV rays < IR rays < Radio wave
- γ-rays < Cosmic rays < IR rays < Micro waves
Answer
(C) Cosmic < UV rays < IR rays < Radio wave
