Statistician — Maths & Statistics

Uses data and probability to find patterns and answer questions.

What they do

Statisticians design studies, collect and analyse data, and draw rigorous inferences to guide decisions in government, business, healthcare and science. They develop probabilistic models, run surveys and experiments, interpret uncertainty and communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders. The role has blurred significantly with data science but retains a distinctive emphasis on inference, survey design and uncertainty quantification.
