Shapes economic policy with research and analysis.
What they do
Policy economists specialise in translating economic analysis into practical government or institutional policy. They evaluate the economic impact of proposed laws and regulations, design welfare schemes, assess tax policy trade-offs and advise on fiscal and monetary strategy. In India, they work in NITI Aayog, Finance Ministry, RBI, Competition Commission, sector regulators (TRAI, SEBI, IRDAI, CERC) and international bodies such as the World Bank, IMF and ADB.
