Cares for eyes and vision.
What they do
An optometrist examines patients' eyes for vision problems and ocular diseases, prescribes corrective lenses, and detects early signs of systemic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension reflected in the eye. They provide primary eyecare, fit spectacles and contact lenses, and refer complex surgical or pathological cases to ophthalmologists. In India they hold a BOptom (or BSc Optometry) degree.
Education path
PCB → B.Optom / B.Sc Optometry (4 yrs).
