What they do
Lawyers — also called advocates in India — represent clients before courts and tribunals, provide legal advice, draft documents and negotiate settlements. Their work spans criminal defence, civil disputes, family matters, property law, taxation, labour law and more. General practitioners handle a wide mix of matters; specialists focus on one domain.
Education path
Class 12 (any stream), then 5-yr integrated BA-LLB, or LLB after graduation.
