What they do

IP and patent lawyers protect intangible assets — inventions, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and designs. They file and prosecute patent applications before the Indian Patent Office and courts, advise on licensing and technology transfer, and litigate infringement disputes. Patent lawyers who handle technical inventions often have a science or engineering background alongside a law degree.
