Interpreter — Language

Converts spoken language in real time.

What they do

Interpreters convert spoken or signed communication from one language to another in real time — during diplomatic meetings, court hearings, international conferences, business negotiations, medical consultations and humanitarian operations. There are two main modes: simultaneous interpreting (speaking at the same time as the speaker, typically in a booth) and consecutive interpreting (waiting for the speaker to pause, then rendering the message). Conference interpreting is the most prestigious and demanding specialisation.

Education path
