What they do

Horticulturists apply plant science to the cultivation, breeding, processing and marketing of fruits, vegetables, flowers, herbs and ornamental plants. They work on improving variety performance, optimising growing systems (greenhouse, hydroponics, orchard), managing post-harvest quality and advising farmers and agribusinesses. In India the sector is valued at over ₹3 lakh crore and is a national food security priority.
