What they do
GIS (Geographic Information System) analysts and cartographers create, manage and interpret geospatial data to help organisations make location-based decisions. They build maps, spatial databases and dashboards for applications ranging from urban planning and disaster management to agriculture, infrastructure and defence. In India, this field has grown sharply with satellite programmes (ISRO), smart city missions and digital mapping.
