Genetic Engineering — Engineering
Engineers genes to improve medicine, crops and life sciences.
What they do
Genetic engineers manipulate the genetic material of organisms — plants, animals, bacteria or human cells — to develop new medicines, crop varieties, diagnostic tools, industrial enzymes and gene therapies. They combine techniques from molecular biology, biochemistry and bioengineering to understand, edit and redesign biological systems. In India, the field spans pharmaceutical R&D, agricultural biotech and an emerging gene therapy pipeline.
