What they do

Data engineers build and operate the infrastructure that moves, transforms and stores data at scale — ingestion pipelines, data warehouses, data lakes and real-time streaming systems. They are the plumbers of the data ecosystem: without reliable, clean and timely data, analysts and data scientists cannot function. The role demands strong software engineering skills alongside deep knowledge of distributed systems and storage.
