What they do

Astronomers and astrophysicists study the universe — planets, stars, galaxies, black holes, dark matter and the large-scale structure of the cosmos. They use telescopes, satellite data, radio observatories and computational models to test physical theories and answer fundamental questions about the origin and fate of the universe. In India the field is closely linked to ISRO's space science missions and national observatories.
