Improves crops, food and farming through science.
What they do
Agricultural scientists research ways to improve crop yields, soil health, pest management and farming systems to ensure food security and sustainable land use. They breed new varieties, develop agronomic practices, test fertiliser and pesticide formulations, and transfer technology to farmers. In India they work for ICAR institutes, state agricultural universities, agri-input companies and international organisations like IRRI and CIMMYT.
Education path
PCB → B.Sc Agriculture, then M.Sc/PhD.
