Classes (School Admin)

Grade-level school classes (e.g. Class 9, Class 10) — linked to a Curriculum, with mandatory/optional subjects and their teachers, class incharges, and sections managed separately.

What this page does

The Classes page lists your grade-level school classes — Class 9, Class 10, and so on. A class links to a Curriculum (which supplies its board), carries its subjects (mandatory and optional) with the teachers who teach them, and can have a class incharge (Class Teacher). Its pupil groupings — Sections like 10-A — are managed on the separate Sections page.

These grade-level Classes are different from LMS Courses. Classes model the school’s grade structure (roster, subjects, sections); Courses are the content/activity/gradebook spaces documented under Courses.

The table shows each class’s name (with its code), Grade, Curriculum, academic Year, a clickable Sections count (jumps to the Sections page filtered to that class) and its Students count. Search by name or grade and filter by academic year.

Common tasks

Click New class, enter a Name (e.g. "Class 9") and pick a Curriculum — the curriculum’s board narrows the Grade choices (or type a grade freely when no board is set).

Optionally set the Academic year, Department, ordering Position, Code, Short code and toggle Enable registration (with a fee), then Create.

Click Subjects on a class to add mandatory and optional (elective) subjects, and assign a subject teacher to each. The subject picker is filtered to the class’s board.

Click Incharge to appoint the Class Teacher, with a start date and optional end date.

Click the Sections count (or open the Sections page) to add sections like A, B, C under the class.

Deleting a class removes it and all of its sections. If students are enrolled, you must type the class name to confirm — it removes them from all sections and exam assignments and cannot be undone. Student accounts themselves are kept.

Buttons, filters & columns

Opens the create modal — Name, Grade (board-cascaded from the curriculum), Academic year, Curriculum, Department, Position, Code, Short code, registration toggle and Description.

Opens the class subjects panel: add Mandatory subjects (every student studies them) and Optional electives (students pick per-student), each with one or more subject teachers.

Appoints the Class Teacher for the class, with a dated tenure. Reassigning closes the previous tenure and keeps it in history.

The number in the Sections column is a link — it opens the Sections page pre-filtered to this class.

Search by class name or grade; the academic-year dropdown scopes the list (defaults to your active year).

Removes the class and its sections. Type-to-confirm when students are enrolled; also clears their exam assignments.
