OMR Exams

The OMR exams list plus the five-step builder — every marking, version, sheet-layout and section option, plus the scan-upload and verify workflow.

What this screen shows

The OMR Exams tab lists each OMR exam with its status (Draft / Published / Graded / Completed), filterable by tab and searchable. Cards offer publish, open, analytics, assign and delete; a bulk bar lets you grade, export or delete several at once. Opening an exam reveals tabs — Overview (action center + answer key), Sheets (scan table), Results and Settings.

Choosing the scope (before the builder)

OMR used to open a short wizard that asked only for board, class and subject. It now opens the same scope screen the rest of Edukali uses — Paper Canva, Online Exam and Rank Booster all share it — so an OMR exam is defined by its chapters, not just its subject. A panel headed New OMR Exam appears over the list: pick Board, Class and Subjects, then tick the chapters this exam covers. Every chapter shows how many questions the bank holds for it in brackets, and a chapter with none is greyed out. The scope you set is saved with the exam, not thrown away after create. Question-paper generation and anything that later pulls questions for this exam read it back, so the exam stays inside the syllabus you chose.

Tick the chapters. Use Select all for the whole subject (the number beside it is the total questions you would be taking), or the Search chapters box to find one quickly. To pull a mock from more than one syllabus, click Add another scope and fill in a second board / class / subjects block — up to four in all. Each extra block can be collapsed or removed.

For part of a chapter only, click the chevron on its card to open the topic checklist and tick the topics you want. The chapter then shows a dash instead of a tick and a count like "12 of 40".

Opens the chapter’s topic checklist, each topic with its own count. A partly-ticked chapter contributes only the ticked topics. Topics with no questions are left out, and a chapter with none at all says "No topics with questions in this chapter."

This replaces the old three-field OMR pre-create wizard. If you have run OMR exams before, the flow is one screen longer but the extra screen is the useful one — it is where the exam’s syllabus gets pinned down.

Builder — basics, source & marking/versions

Step 2: pick a built paper as the question source, with a search box to find it by title. The scope you set on the way in is kept with the exam and used downstream (question-paper generation, for instance) — it does not narrow this list, so choose a paper that matches the syllabus you picked.

Step 3 · How students answer: hand out each student’s unique QR sheet, mark by hand and upload a photo — the QR auto-routes the scan to the student.

Builder — sheet layout & sections

Each assigned student’s sheet is identified by a unique QR plus a pre-printed name and short code — the old hand-bubbled roll-number grid is gone, so nothing has to be read from the header to route a scan.

Step 4: embed the QR the scanner reads. On per-student sheets the QR is unique and auto-routes each scan to that student; the toggle also adds an exam-id QR for faster scanner pickup.

Action center, scanning & verify

Generate / download the alignment-marked bubble sheets — one unique QR sheet per assigned student (with their name + short code pre-printed), or a blank sheet where no student is named.

Keep alignment marks crisp and scan at a consistent resolution — clean scans dramatically improve bubble-detection accuracy. Always set the answer key (per version) before you Evaluate All. The unique QR on each student’s sheet auto-routes the scan to that student — you never sort by roll number. If a QR can’t be read, name the file {examStudentId}.pdf (or verify by the pre-printed short code) as the fallback. When on-screen answering is enabled, students tap the digital bubble grid instead of printing; those attempts auto-grade and merge into the same Results and Subject Analytics as the scans.
