Resource — Link (URL)
Add a web link to a course topic that students open in a new browser tab.
What it is
A Link (URL) is the simplest resource: a single web address you place inside a course topic. It is study material, not a graded task — students click it to read or watch something hosted elsewhere (a reference site, a YouTube channel, a shared doc).
How to add it
- Open the course and go to the Course content tab.
- Inside the topic where you want it, click Add activity.
- Pick Link (URL) from the resource list.
- Give it a title and paste the link into the URL field.
- Click Add to course — the link appears in the topic stream.
- A URL resource is configured by pasting a link (configMode: url). Always include the full address with https://.
What students see
Students see the titled link in the topic. Clicking it opens the target in a new tab (openMode: external), leaving the course page intact behind it.
Completion
A URL is not graded. Completion tracking is a per-activity setting — manual by default (students tick it off once they have visited the link), or turn it off; either way it feeds the course progress bar.
