Activity — External tool (LTI)

Launch a third-party LTI 1.3 tool (publisher content, H5P.com, etc.) inside the course.

What it is

An External tool (LTI) launches a third-party learning tool — publisher courseware, an H5P.com activity, an interactive simulation — using the LTI 1.3 standard. The tool runs in its own service but is launched, single-sign-on, from inside your course.

Before you start

The external tool must first be registered as an LTI 1.3 tool on the platform (OIDC login URL, keys/JWKS exchanged with the provider). This is an integration set-up done once; ask your admin if the tool you want is not yet in the picker.

How to add it

In Course content, click Add activity in a topic.

Pick External tool (LTI).

Select a registered LTI tool from the list (configMode: lti) and title the activity.

What students see

Students launch the tool from inside the course (openMode: viewer); the platform performs the LTI handshake and the third-party content loads. Note: this connector launches the tool but does not yet pass grades back automatically (no AGS).

Completion

An LTI activity is not graded here; completion is manual.
