Activity — AI Chatbot (Course Assistant)
A course chatbot that answers only from this course’s published content — students chat inline.
What it is
An AI Chatbot activity adds a Course Assistant — a chatbot that answers questions only from this course’s own published content (its pages, books, files, notes and the like). It is a grounded assistant, not a general-purpose AI: if the answer is not in the course material, it says so rather than making something up. Behind it sits the same knowledge-bot machinery used across Edukali, scoped to this one course.
What the chatbot knows
The course’s published content syncs into the chatbot’s knowledge base automatically — as you add or edit pages, files and other material, the assistant is kept up to date. Its answers are drawn from that content and nothing else.
Exam content is held back until the exam ends. An exam attached to the course only becomes part of the chatbot’s knowledge — its questions, answers and solutions — after the exam’s end time has passed. Live or open-ended exams are never ingested, so students can’t coax answers out of the assistant while an exam is still running.
How to add it
In Course content, click Add activity in a topic.
Give it a name, an optional starter message and any instructions for tone/scope (configMode: aichatbot). The knowledge base is built from the course content — there are no persona or taxonomy pickers to set.
You can review the assistant’s sync status and re-sync from the course builder’s Assistant settings — handy right after adding a batch of new content.
What students see
Students open the activity and chat with the assistant inline on the course page (openMode: viewer), asking questions and getting answers grounded in the course material. If the assistant has not been trained on any content yet, it replies gracefully rather than guessing.
Completion
An AI Chatbot activity is not graded. Completion tracking is a per-activity setting — manual by default (the student marks it done), or turn it off in the activity settings; either way it feeds the course progress bar.
